There’s nothing quite as strange as having to interview yourself for a staff profile, and yet, here we are.
Well then, where to start? I joined Because three sweet years ago as Head of Digital Content, and last year, I was made Global Content Director. I am responsible for helping generate new business for the agency, and managing the content and lead gen strategy for each of the seven markets we currently operate in.
My role is pretty challenging – no two days are the same and as most of you know, the digital space changes at a Usain Bolt-like pace.
I spent my first year at the agency splitting my time between the London and Ascot offices in the UK. But two years ago, I decided to make the move back home to the great white north of Canada. Since then, I’ve been a bit of a lone wolf, working remotely from shared offices in Toronto. I hop the pond once a quarter to meet up with the senior team to help plan and strategise for the upcoming quarter – and to party hard with my long-lost Because crew.
When I’m not working on marketing plans, I’m usually walking my mini goldendoodle, Indy (see below), reading something funny (currently: Calypso by David Sedaris) or cooking something tasty while at the same time trying not to burn down my kitchen.
Speaking of which, here are my answers to these 5 burning get-to-know-you questions:
1. Which campaign in your career are you most proud to have worked on?
While not a ‘campaign’ as such – I’m most proud of the work I’ve done since I’ve joined Because (I was not paid to say that – promise!). The agency is wholly committed to investing in its own marketing – which is a must in a saturated marketplace where hundreds of other agencies are vying for the same business. There’s a real pride in building our own brand – from our obsession with cutting-edge tech, to our investment in SEO, social media, content development and marketing automation, the list never ends. We’ve won many awards for our masterclasses, our content marketing and our lead generation strategies and I feel proud to have had a hand in those wins and to have worked with such an incredibly talented team of people along the way.
2. Which person, dead or alive, would you love to have dinner with?
I would love to split a KFC Bargain Bucket with the Queen. I think she is a fascinating person because she:
- has owned more than 30 corgis (who, we all know, are the goodest boys)
- has met 10 US Presidents (let’s just ignore the last one…)
- loves electric-coloured formal wear
I am also obsessed with The Crown and fascinated by the Royal Family generally (did you know Meghan Markle lived in Toronto while filming Suits?!). Plus, I bet she loves the Colonel’s secret recipe!
3. What show are you currently bingeing on Netflix? And what makes it so ‘bingeable’?
Oh god, what am I not bingeing? Most recently. I watched The Staircase, which is a crazy true-crime documentary (similar in style to Making a Murderer). It’s an unreal story that just becomes more and more bizarre as it progresses. Highly recommended if you like shouting at your TV!
4. What’s your go-to drink? And why?
I mean, I’ll never say no to a frosty pint of lager. But if I want to class it up a bit, a strong Hendricks G&T with lots of lime (sorry, cucumber fans)! Why? Because gin is delicious!
5. Name one thing on your bucket list.
I have always wanted to be a contestant on Jeopardy (a North American quiz show, for those who aren’t familiar). I watched the show religiously before I gave up cable (which was basically just a Jeopardy subscription because that’s all I watched). I love trivia and being right, so it feels like the perfect show for me! I better make a move though because fellow Canuck and beloved host Alex Trebek might be retiring soon!
