Nostalgic grunge lover, mum and ocean swimmer.
Meredith Cranmer, Co-Founder & MD of Because ANZ, joined the Because team in London back in 2007 as an Account Director. She worked for the agency for 5 years and floated the idea of launching a global office with Sharon Richey, the global CEO. In 2011 she launched the Australian arm, which has gone from strength to strength.
In her personal life she’s a very proud Kiwi and mum of two; Lennox and Zola fill her heart with an immense sense of pride. As it is with most working mums, trying to juggle life’s demands doesn’t leave her with much time to herself, but when she does find a moment, it’s the ocean that calls her. Mere (as we call her) loves to get in the water as much as possible and complete ocean swims. She did three earlier this year and looks forward to get back into it this Summer.
1. Which campaign in your career are you most proud to have worked on?
Combining technology to drive behaviour change makes my heart sing, which is why I am so proud of our Sydney Water ‘Bring it to win it’ campaign. We encouraged cricket fans to stay hydrated and reduce the impact of single-use plastic bottles with gamification and money that can’t buy prizes. The results were outstanding as it built on a behaviour which people are already used to doing through tap and go technology.
2. Which person, dead or alive, would you love to have dinner with?
Eddie Vedder, teen crush, grunge icon. You’ll get me if you were a teen of the 90s.
3. What show are you currently bingeing on Netflix? And what makes it so ‘bingeable’?
Loving the dystopian craziness of The Handmaids Tale. That it seems so far fetched but at the same time real, given the world we are living in is just irresistible. I also think they have the best soundtrack. The choice of music marries perfectly with the scripting and pop classics, with some really progressive tunes.
4. What’s your go-to drink? And why?
Ah this really depends on the time of day and season. For now though, my husband and I are keen home (craft) brewers. We’re loving our sour beers at the moment. Our passion and dragonfruit sour is so good.
5. Name one thing on your bucket list
I recently saw someone I follow on Instagram, Sarah Wilson, who had hiked the Kumano Kudo in Japan. Her images and stories took my breath away. It looks so mystical and magical, and I’d never considered the destination or walk before. Power of influencers eh?!. And onsens along route have surely got to be a winner after a hard days walking right? I’m planning a trip with my parents for the Japanese spring time. Hopefully we’ll see some cherry blossoms.
