Meet Luc Gendron, our new Project Controller

Uncategorized

IPAs, local adventures, and American road trips: that’s what drives our new project managing guru. Here’s what we’ve uncovered on our latest Because talent acquisition.

MeetLuc-925x545

A man with a plan. The hero in the clutch. The last-minute lifesaver. All three descriptions help to describe precisely who the latest addition to our team is. Luc is a workflow-mastering, schedule-smashing, deadline-drafting machine that will make all our workdays easier. However, project wrangling and time management are not the only skills on our new cool, calm, collected project controller’s CV.

“I trained as a photographer before I started with workflow management, and that has always been something that I’ve enjoyed,” explains Luc. “And I’m an avid gardener.” So, we’ve got a green-fingered, photographically-skilled new colleague, and one of his biggest passions outside of those two areas: travel, both locally and internationally.

“We’ve always tried to explore as much possible within our province with our friends, and we’ve always enjoyed going to Greyton, a small town about three hours from Cape Town. Summers spent in the Breede River Valley have also been the most memorable. The highlight of our year is the annual local getaway that’s planned months in advance and usually with many preplanning braais (barbeques for the non-South Africans) which keep us busy for much of the year,” describes Luc. “My father’s family is based in Montreal, Canada, so regular trips there were some of the most unforgettable, with the most recent trip being a highlight where I was able to introduce my then-girlfriend and now wife to my grandparents.”

When Luc isn’t exploring or visiting local wine farms, he’s spending time with his friends and family or going for the odd run. “It’s ashamedly a very occasional jog. I’m horrendously uncoordinated and very competitive so this mix has not led me to enjoy team sports as a player. But I do enjoy watching F1 and a bit of rugby and cricket.”

In his turn as office DJ, expect plenty of variety in choice from Luc. “As generic as this sounds, I like a bit of everything with a leaning to EDM, Indie and Pop chart as my go-tos with a sprinkling of throwback classics from varsity and high school put in for good measure.”

His friends describe Luc as assertive, motivated, compassionate and determined; someone that goes the extra mile. We’re looking forward to getting to know our new project controller better ourselves, so we asked him our five essential get-to-know-you questions.

1. Which campaign or role in your career are you most proud to have worked on?

I created a digital internal repository of mixed media for a previous company. This allows searchable content to be reused and reskinned. It also works as a client work library, as they can use it to redistribute content without recreating assets.

2. Which person, dead or alive, would you love to have dinner with?

Marco Pierre White.

3. What show are you currently bingeing on Netflix? And what makes it so ‘bingeable’?

My wife and I have just finished The Block, an Australian home reno show. There’s a good mix of drama and inspiration for our DIY projects. We moved into our house last year October, and the thing on our list to do is our daughter’s nursery for her arrival in March, and then move onto the kitchen and bathroom.

4. What’s your go-to drink? And why?

Nothing beats the taste of an ice-cold IPA on a summer’s day. Lagunitas and Newlands Spring are two of my favourite IPA brands, but I’m also happy with a Windhoek Draft any day of the week.

5. Name one thing on your bucket list.

An east-to-west American road trip filled with diners and drive-ins.
