Our latest team signing is an adventurer whose natural habitat is on waves and mountain trails. Here’s what you need to know about this talented fixer and creator.
Kayla is a breath of fresh air. Charismatic and passionate, she has energy levels that rival the Energizer bunny. Beyond her love for the outdoors (she seems to be powered by sunlight), this hardworking Cape Town local also loves travel and adventure and has an enviable passport stamp collection.
“My top destination is without a doubt Bali, although Mexico is a close second. Both have the most beautiful snorkelling spots (and both result in a rather impressive tan). Other than these beachy paradise settings, New York is my favourite city,” explains Kayla. “The fast-paced hustle and bustle offers a sense of excitement and something new!”
When it comes to never-say-die energy levels, New York is the perfect match for our deadline-smashing problem-solver.
It’s not just overseas destinations that ignite Kayla’s sense of adventure. She loves to spend all her downtime outside. “It can be anything outdoors or on the ocean, but kayaking with dolphins (if we’re lucky) is a family favourite,” says Kayla. “My friends also love the outdoors, so we spend our evenings chasing sunsets and mornings catching fresh air with a coffee. A good hike or run along the promenade is always good when I’m stressed – maybe it’s because all I can think about is how I’m absolutely out of breath or how much I’m sweating! Tuesday Trails is a trail run I do when I have the time; I generally do their Lions Head sunset run. Other than that, my favourite place to run is on the Sea Point promenade or on Camps Bay. Yes, it’s flat with a view – what more could you want!”
It’s this potent mixture of passion, energy levels, and sense of adventure that we’re excited to add to our Because formula.
When Kayla isn’t tearing up trails or racing dolphins, she can be found exploring local hot spots or tapping into her artistic side. “A sneaky trip up to Franschhoek or Hermanus is always great. Franschhoek offers the outdoors and of course, our favourite type of grape ‘juice’! Otherwise, my latest hobby is painting by number, there’s something so therapeutic about it.”
Kayla’s friends and family describe her as someone who doesn’t know how to whisper, and who has the loudest, most contagious laugh (we’ve got a much-loved Because legend in the UK who also has one!). We’re looking forward to getting to know our new adventurous-and-artistic account exec better ourselves, so we asked her our five essential get-to-know-you questions.
1. Which campaign or role in your career are you most proud to have worked on?
This is my first agency ‘rodeo’, so watch this space!
2. Which person, dead or alive, would you love to have dinner with?
Ryan Reynolds, hands down.
3. What show are you currently bingeing on Netflix? And what makes it so ‘bingeable’?
I’m absolutely addicted to Below Deck. If there isn’t enough drama between the crew, the guests are sure to make you giggle.
4. What’s your go-to drink? And why?
Tequila. Tequila. Tequila. No explanation is needed.
5. Name one thing on your bucket list.
