That awkward moment when you realise you’re interviewing yourself.
Before we start, you’re probably wondering what’s the deal with my strange(ish) name. ‘Ally’ is actually short for ‘Alessandra’ and to answer your question, no. I’m not Italian or some exotic Mediterranean breed unfortunately (although I do like to sometimes claim it) but rather my parents thought by giving me a ‘unique’ name they were doing me a favour. Needless to say all it’s proved to be is a challenging mouthful in my hometown. Hence why I go by Ally now.
Speaking of my hometown, I am based in Cape Town, South Africa, operating from offices I share with our Global CEO, Sharon Richey and Global Innovation Director, Joss Davidge. We’re a tight-knit team and no day is the same which is mostly what we thrive off of.
I’m brand new to the Because team having joined just over a month ago, as Global Database & Digital Marketing Manager. I’m responsible for all our own brand digital efforts for each of the seven markets we currently operate in. Big shoes to fill, but boy am I enjoying it.
When I’m not behind a screen, I can usually be found at the gym (self-professed fitness addict), with some sort of food in my mouth (avid foodie – probably why I train so often) or in a beautiful part of Cape Town where I can take a scenic pic.
So without further ado, here are my answers to these 5 burning get-to-know-you questions:
1. Which campaign in your career are you most proud to have worked on?
Given I’m new, right now I’d say there is no specific ‘campaign’ as such but rather I feel proud to be working on the many different marketing strategies our agency puts together across the various markets we operate in. The ability to be tapping into different territories, working on pieces from around the world, is one of my favorite parts of this role and therefore something I take the utmost pride in. Because is highly invested in (constantly) staying ahead of the pack and so our digital marketing efforts will never fall short of leading-edge. The importance of my role in the bigger picture of our agency and building on our own brand within a team that’s undeniably devoted to what they do, is really what I am proud to be apart of.
2. Which person, dead or alive, would you love to have dinner with?
Chris Hemsworth. Pasta. Lady and the Tramp style.
Besides the obvious reasons, he’s beautiful to look at and the Aussie accent gets me every time, his witty sense of humour is really what I’m after. Before you ask me how I could possibly know that considering he is an actor, in my spare time I admit I stalk him in the world of social media, like every other 16-year-old girl (and I haven’t been 16 for a very long time).
3. What show are you currently bingeing on Netflix? And what makes it so ‘bingeable’?
One show? Okay if I had to choose one right now I’d say Queen of the South. The story keeps me on the edge of my seat and I like the fact that she’s quite a rational, independent, consistently having to think-on-her-feet kind of badass. Girl power.
4. What’s your go-to drink? And why?
Red-red-wine. Simply put…you cannot live in Cape Town and not drink wine.
5. Name one thing on your bucket list.
Well I tend to have the whole adrenaline-junkie thing going on, not to mention I’m a bit of a walking contradiction as my bucket list items tend to double up as my biggest fears. One of those big fears being heights, but I desperately want to jump out of an aeroplane – see my predicament. Nonetheless my appetite for the rush will always prevail and so I plan on going for my birthday next month actually.
