We do a LOT of research when we’re working on a brief for one of our amazing clients. Needless to say, we come across some very inspiring, crazy and super cool stuff. There are some incredibly talented people out there!

These folk inspire us to do the work we do, and we thought they might inspire you too. So, our very own team of Creative gurus have committed to sharing a few of their favourite finds once a month to help keep those creative juices flowing.

Today’s Fresh Friday’s selection is brought to you by South African Designer Extraordinaire, Tyler Smith. Enjoy!

Delightful disco-inspired scenes by Nigerian-born painter, Peter Uka

If you love Disco music or Nigeria, or better yet, Disco music from Nigeria (pick me, pick me!) you’ll love Peter Uka’s nostalgic paintings. They’re inspired by his profound love of music and everyday life growing up in Nigeria. IMO, they are flat-out cool and would look great in my living room (above the conversation pit. Which I don’t have. Yet…).

Fun fact: While painting, Peter taps his foot to Nigerian Highlife – a popular genre of dance music that originated in Ghana. His most played artists are Prince Nico Mbarga, Victor Uwaifo and Bongos Ikwue.

Bonus share: An Afro-Boogie banger from fellow Nigerian – ‘Only You’ by Steve Monite. Just try not to dance. I dare you…

Find the perfect font match for your feity, fun-loving or free-spirited brand.

Font Brief is a website that houses a pretty smart and playful graphic-design tool that helps you find the perfect font by matching your brand’s personality to a font’s characteristics. (Tinder for fonts and brands…) I love this fresh take on finding new and cutting-edge fonts for your projects. The website itself has an interesting design and puts the brief first by literally allowing you to pick and choose your brand’s personality traits before serving up suggested fonts. A fun, yet functional idea!

Taika Waititi in Save Ralph

I devour anything that involves Taika Waititi! He’s a massive personal creative inspiration for me. For those who haven’t quite discovered his greatness – yet – Taika Waititi (aka Taika David Cohen) is a New Zealand film and television director, producer, screenwriter, actor, and comedian. If you haven’t already, check out Boy’ and ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’.

Here he lends his voice to an amazingly animated short which uses (dark) humour to highlight the harsh realities of animal testing.

Always inspiring to see creative work being used to shine a light on an important issue – in this case the impressive stop-animation brings new eyes to a subject which might otherwise be ignored.

Overshare: Taika was inspired to write his Oscar nominated – Two Cars, One Night while hanging out in a g-string, fully waxed for an acting role as a stripper in a TV show ‘The Strip’ in 2002. – IMDB said so.
