Paddy Davis: Three things I’m excited for in 2019

Uncategorized

As I look back on 2018 and start planning for 2019, there are three things that I am most excited about.

1, Development of tech to tell a story

I’m looking forward to seeing how tech is going to further develop and influence our industry. All signs are pointing toward VR, AR and mixed reality having a greater impact on live experiences in the future.

As an agency, we’re already leading the way globally with immersive technologies. But as adoption picks up in new sectors – like utility companies, energy providers and educational institutions – the opportunities for creative experiences using cutting-edge tech are increasing exponentially. Younger professionals are demanding these type of technology-led experiences over simply owning things: they no longer want to just be told a story, they want to participate in one. So the road ahead in this area is one I am looking forward to immensely in the coming year.

2. Working Together

The development of the Because global network is extremely exciting. Our global CEO, Sharon Richey, has led this growth and done an excellent job in ensuring all the individual territories are working together, sharing learnings and supporting one another, which has resulted in some extraordinary work across the business.

The opportunity to work with so many talented people across seven countries is something that you can’t help but get excited about. Being able to leverage knowledge and insight across so many markets is invaluable – but can only be done when there are excellent people in place to ensure it all comes together.

3. “Work Hard, have fun and make history”

I’m a sucker for a cheesy quote but I really like this one from Jeff Bezos. It’s very similar to our motto here at Because: Work Hard, Have Fun, Give Back. I’m a firm believer if you put the work in, then the benefits will show. Those benefits can be realised  in a variety of ways, but what’s really important is that work isn’t seen as a chore. Yes, there will be bad days. But if you’re going to put in all that hard work, then it should be fun as well. Finally, in terms of making history, that would be enjoying the fruits of our labour. What I’m looking forward to most is being immensely proud of the work that I – and everyone at Because – has done this time next year.

With nearly 30 years of marketing experience, both client and agency side, I’ve acquired a rare perspective on brands and business: I believe you have to challenge things creatively if you want to grow sales. Consumer technology is reshaping our world, and it’s only the great brands that stay on the crest.
