Given the frenetic pace of our business, it’s easy to forget about the world outside us and how we can make a positive impact beyond our office walls.
At Because, making a difference and improving the lives of others has always been close to our heart. As an agency, we want to make a real, tangible contribution, which is why we donate 5% of our profits to our charity, ADD Positivity, which supports educational causes within the UK and abroad.
We’ve been quite busy fundraising and giving our time and effort to various causes around the world over the past few months. So here’s a round up of what we’ve been doing
Because UK
Our UK office teamed up with Hospitality & Catering News – and their nearest and dearest – for the charity dinner to end all charity dinners at the home of Sharon Richey, CEO of Because. The evening featured Because team members serving cocktails to complement the three course dinner. The meal was prepared by both Mridula Baljekar, the best-selling author of 27 Indian cookery books and home event chef to Tony and Cherie Blair, and Daksha Mistry, finalist and now guest judge on BBC’s Masterchef. The generosity of the guests in attendance helped the event raise £3,400 for ADD Positivity.
With Royal Ascot right on our doorstep – and this year offering one of the wettest races on record – we took advantage of the soggy weather and created our ADD Positivity pop-up umbrella shop in front of the office. Members of the team took turns to work their magic on passersby and in doing so, raised nearly £1,000 for our charity
After the pain the team endured running the Windsor Half Marathon in 2015, you’d think we would have learnt our lesson. But when there’s a good cause – and a mountain of determination – our group are driven to tackle the hilliest of hills. This year, we ran the marathon again to raise more funds for ADD Positivity. The team did a fantastic job and fundraised over £1,500! What a group!
BEcause Australia
Our team in Australia love to get involved too and have been busy with fundraising activities for their chosen charity, Whitelion, an Australian organisation that offers outreach, mentoring, employment and education for youth at risk. Like their UK counterpart, they’ve hosted a range of weekly charity lunches as well as very popular snack tuck boxes, which in total have generated a whopping $1000 this past year!
Earlier this year, Meredith Cranmer, who heads up our Australia office, spent a day volunteering at the Gladesville Salvation Army store in Sydney. She shares her thoughts about her about experience and the great work the Gladesville Salvation Army does in our blog.
BEcause Ireland
The newest member of the BEcause family, Because Ireland, have been doing some fantastic work for Pieta House, a charity that provides free support to people who are in suicidal distress or engage in self-harm.
Team member Laura O’Connell entered Darkness into Light, a 5km charity walk that took place at 4:15 in the morning! Her colleague, Ciara Grant, helped make the event the success it was by giving up her weekends for eight weeks running up to the event to help the public register and collect their t-shirts. On the night of the event, she volunteered as a guide through the Phoenix Park.
Jonny Davis, BEcause Ireland’s MD, allso spent two busy days bag packing at Tesco helping raise money and awareness for Pieta House.
So the spirit of giving is alive and well at BEcause. If you’re keen to get involved or donate to any of our charities, please visit them here: ADD Positivity, Whitelion and Pieta House.
